Hair Regrowth Q&A

When is the right time to seek hair regrowth treatment?

There is no bad time to explore hair regrowth treatment. Some people reach out for help as soon as they notice thinning. Others have lived with hair loss for years before they begin the process.

Previously there were few treatments that held much promise for slowing hair loss or promoting hair regrowth. But advancements in research and technology have created numerous treatment paths to explore.

How does hair regrowth work?

The first step is determining the cause of hair loss. Many people experience thinning hair as part of their genetic makeup. Issues like high stress, certain health conditions, and even medications can also cause hair loss.

If a clear cause is established, treating that underlying condition can slow hair loss. Making changes to your medication, or trying treatments like steroid injections to reduce inflammation can help.

Some people find that topical medications like minoxidil (Rogaine®) can prompt new hair growth. Finasteride (Propecia®) is another option that yields results for many.

Microneedling can help by creating thousands of tiny channels into the deeper layers of your scalp. This approach prompts your body to launch a healing response, reducing inflammation and improving blood flow to the scalp, both of which help with hair regrowth. Adding platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to the process further boosts results.

PRP is created from a small sample of your own blood, concentrating the growth factor-rich platelets and reintroducing them via microneedling or a series of shallow injections. This regenerative treatment is well tolerated by most patients.

Light-based therapy is also an option, and works by creating heat in the deeper layers of your skin to promote new cellular regeneration, including hair growth.

How long does it take to see hair regrowth?

All hair regrowth treatments take time to yield noticeable improvements. Creating new cells that stack into strands of hair is a gradual process, and that hair emerges from your scalp slowly and blends with existing hair.

Expect to see results within a couple of months. Those results should improve over time. When you come in for your initial consultation, you’ll learn what to expect in terms of treatment timing, results, and expense.
